ORDU
The province of Ordu was founded under the name of 'Kotyora' in the region known as Bozukkale , 5 kilometers out of the city center, before 400 BC. Kotyora means "Kut Area".
The name of the army was given by Hacı EmiroÄŸlu Süleyman Bey in 1396 as a result of the gathering of force of 12000 soldiers to conquer Giresun in today's Eskipazar locality.
The city, formerly known as Kotyora, was ruled by Kaskas, Medes, Persians, Pontus Kingdom, Roman Empire, Eastern Roman Empire, Danişment Principality, again Eastern Roman Empire, Trabzon Empire, Anatolian Seljuk State,Trabzon Empire, Hacıemiroğlu Principality and the Ottoman Empire.
The city, which was connected to Giresun sanjak, which was separated from Trabzon Central in 1920, became the center of a separate sanjak in 1921 and the center of Ordu in 1924.
Suitable lands for cultivation are very few in the province of Ordu. However, the climate is mild and rainfall is abundant. A hazelnut tree is planted on slopes that cannot be cultivated. Agriculture in Ordu means hazelnut. Hazelnut is actually a forest tree. The number of hazelnut trees in the province is approaching 100 million. An average of 80,000 tons of hazelnuts are obtained from these. Regions where hazelnuts are grown; central district (Ordu), Fatsa, Ünye, Ulubey and Persembe districts. Other agricultural products grown after hazelnuts are corn, potatoes, beans, soy, wheat and barley. Apart from these, citrus fruits, tea, cabbage and kidney beans are also grown.
